Why flicsy was born

I love to travel with friends. And we love to take photos. Every trip I take, every gorgeous wedding, low key birthday or silly business school costume party, the group has been different, but the problem's been the same; how can we share our photos from an event, with those who were there?

Shortly after landing in Havana this past New Years, my friend Matt said to me

"We still haven't shared our pictures from China."

We'd left China a year before.

Matt hit on a problem we all have: with different friends, in disparate groups, each using competing sites and services, sharing photos of social gatherings is still hard to do.

Another example - I was at a friend's wedding in August of about a hundred people. 40 of them were flashing photos with point-and-shoot's, SLRs, and smartphones. Several published facebook albums of their accounts of the wedding. Some sent around photos by email. And of course Brandon and his beautiful bride Anna had some exceptional photos taken professionally. All the photos of the same gorgeous wedding, were in different albums, on and offline. This is the problem that Flicsy solves.

Sure, you can swap USB drives or SD cards, or maybe even dropbox. Maybe you're lucky enough that all your friends use the same photo sharing services. For most of us, sharing event photos with a group takes too much time, too much thought, too many accounts to sign up, and too many clicks.

We're building Flicsy to be the easy way for groups to share event photos. It will be perfect for trips, weddings, graduations, reunions, birthdays, and mitzvahs; pretty much any social gathering with multiple cameras. You'll upload photos, invite your friends, they'll upload their photos, and all you and your friends' photos will be in the same place, at full resolution, for you and your friends to do rate, view, "like" share, download, publish or print (or anything else you want for that matter).

After leaving Havana, I discussed the idea with my brothers Femi & Dami, and Melissa. We all worked on Juncanoo together. Femi and Dami are pure technical genius, and Melissa has a fantastic eye for usability. They loved it, and we've never looked back.

Simply put, we're building Flicsy to be the easiest way to share event photos with the people who were there. There wont be an easier way to get your photos onto the web, in front of those who were there, and those you want to share them with. Period.

We're in alpha in a few days. Sign up at www.flicsy.com to stay tuned.

Hi, I'm flicsy

Actually, I'm Ayo, and I'm on twitter here.

I'm starting flicsy so I can share my trip photos with groups of friends. I got the idea when my Jacqueline sent me this email:

"Anyway, I would love it if we could all share our photos from the trip in the next week or so!  Any recommendations or sharing accounts people would like to offer up?  Flickr or Picasso are the two that come to mind.

Thanks all!

Jacqueline "
